The HSBC Logo was developed in 1983 by the design firm Henrion Ludlow and Schmidt. The red colour symbolises strength, prosperity, and good fortune — important values in both Western and Asian cultures, especially significant to HSBC’s early presence in Hong Kong and China.

This design of this lighting feature takes its cues from this.
